Enter the note numbers making up a scale in the ‘Primary buffer’
column. Click on ‘Get base notes’ or press B. The ideal
base note will be displayed, along with less suitable bases.
Select the ‘Show detail’ box to show the calculations from each of the
rotations. Put notes in the ‘Secondary buffer’ column that
correspond to notes played in the previous 7-14 seconds.
Click on ‘Play’ or press P to play the scale, followed by the base
notes in worst-to-best order. Select the ‘Play forward then
reverse’ box to first play in best-to-worst note order. Played
notes will be displayed in the boxes below the Primary and Secondary
columns.
Notes can be manually played by clicking the green buttons or using
keyboard keys A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L,; and spacebar to stop. An Offset
can be entered to shift the sound up or down.
To calculate for non-integer notes, first click the ‘Get note energies’
button.
To calculate for an acoustic instrument, click the ‘Acoustic instrument’
box. Notes will also sound slightly different because this mode
simulates an acoustic instrument and nullfies 2-note comparisons.
To rotate the scale, click ‘Rotate’ or press R. Hold the shift
key to reverse direction.
